Area Info
Parrottsville,
TN (Cocke County)
Cocke County was established in 1790 when John Parrot of Virginia arrived
with his 640 acre land grant awarded for fighting in the Revolutionary War,
where he raised fourteen children, making Parrotsville the third oldest town in
the State of Tennessee!
Land originally used for cattle and crops is slowly giving way to accommodations
and attractions; including a downtown greenway and recreational park, a natural
bridge, and Swaggerty Fort (which dates back to 1787 and used to defend against
Indian attacks). There are churches, real estate opportunities and many unique
shops and services throughout this location.
Newport (nearby town)
Cocke County's blessings come in threes; three sparkling
rivers (The Pigeon,
The Nolichucky and The French Broad), three state and federal
forests (The
Martha Sundquist Forest, The Great Smoky Mountains National
Park and The
Cherokee National Forest), and 33,000 of the finest folks
around waiting to
welcome you! White water rafting, canoeing, fishing, hiking,
biking and
horseback riding all await today's visitor. And, if you're
looking for that
certain something - Cocke County is the place to find it
- our artists and
crafters produce the most spectacular wares. There's music
in them thar
hills - so, rosin up your bow and put on your dancing shoes!
